All these motions are possible because of gravitational force. The law that explains this force is called the Universal Law of Gravitation.\n<\/p>\n\n<h2>Universal Law of Gravitation<\/h2>\n<p>\nThe Universal Law of Gravitation states that every object in the universe attracts every other object with a force.\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThe magnitude of this force is directly proportional to the product of their masses and inversely proportional to the square of the distance between their centers.\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n|<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong>| \u221d m<sub>1<\/sub>m<sub>2<\/sub>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n|<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong>| \u221d 1 \/ r<sup>2<\/sup>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nTherefore,\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n|<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong>| \u221d m<sub>1<\/sub>m<sub>2<\/sub> \/ r<sup>2<\/sup>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nRemoving proportionality, we get:\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n|<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong>| = Gm<sub>1<\/sub>m<sub>2<\/sub> \/ r<sup>2<\/sup>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nHere, <strong>F\u20d7<\/strong> is the gravitational force, <strong>m<sub>1<\/sub><\/strong> and <strong>m<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong> are the masses of the two objects, <strong>r<\/strong> is the distance between their centers, and <strong>G<\/strong> is the universal gravitational constant.\n<\/p>\n\n<h2>Vector Form<\/h2>\n<p>\nIf <strong>r\u0302<\/strong> is the unit vector from mass <strong>m<sub>1<\/sub><\/strong> towards mass <strong>m<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong>, then the gravitational force on <strong>m<sub>1<\/sub><\/strong> is:\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong><sub>12<\/sub> = (Gm<sub>1<\/sub>m<sub>2<\/sub> \/ r<sup>2<\/sup>) <strong>r\u0302<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThe gravitational force on <strong>m<sub>2<\/sub><\/strong> is in the opposite direction:\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\n<strong>F\u20d7<\/strong><sub>21<\/sub> = \u2212 (Gm<sub>1<\/sub>m<sub>2<\/sub> \/ r<sup>2<\/sup>) <strong>r\u0302<\/strong>\n<\/p>\n\n<p>\nThus, the two forces are equal in magnitude and opposite in direction.\n<\/p>\n\n<h2>Explanation<\/h2>\n<p>\nAccording to this law, the gravitational force increases when the masses of the objects increase.
